This program is designed for those who currently serve, or are interested in serving, as a director on a nonprofit board. It would also be helpful to nonprofit staff in obtaining resources to educate directors serving on their Boards. This program will provide a general overview of the nuts and bolts of nonprofit board governance, including the New York State and Federal law framework and terminology for nonprofits. It will also offer an overview of certain practical considerations for and duties of directors serving on nonprofit boards, including those required under the New York Nonprofit Revitalization Act, with a special emphasis on conflicts of interest (including related party transactions), audit oversight obligations and whistleblower obligations under the Act, as well as certain IRS governance initiatives and reporting requirements.
What are they and what do they mean? More importantly, how can these be used to help your nonprofit and staff with rising premiums and medical expenses. This workshop will define the differences between each of the funding accounts and provide tips on how your nonprofit can use them to enhance your benefit program and help your staff. Understanding the benefits of each of these accounts is key to helping your organization chose the right account and achieve greater satisfaction among staff.

This session will review the proposed changes to the federal overtime rules and the impact of such changes on nonprofit organizations’ compensation systems, the new State requirements for accommodating transgender employees in the workplace, employers’ obligations to employees who are affected by the opioid crisis, the new election law and voting time leave rules, and the changes to workplace conduct standards.
